pre-easter fun

I’ve taken hundreds of pictures the past few days, and I now plan to bore you with them for the next few posts.

Just so you know what to expect.

Here are a few from when we dyed our Easter eggs several days ago.

Just as soon as I took this picture of the girls together

BOTH Rose and Kait dropped their eggs and cracked them!

Remember the post about the Cash and Cari estate sale we went to where I bought these little egg holders?

Well, our colorful Easter eggs briefly sat in them

before being turned into breakfast.

Ok, so not all of the eggs were eaten.  Rose preferred to play with hers.

She’s not much of a breakfast girl.  Or a fan of actually eating boiled eggs.

ouch!

It’s a good thing I like our small town.

It’s looks like I won’t be leaving it anytime soon.

new friends

I have many fun pictures from our Easter celebration, but before I get to that, we have some new friends around here.

The little ladies are very excited about the “new pets” that arrived on Monday.

Kait received a butterfly house and 5 caterpillars as part of her Easter basket.  She’s keeping a scientific journal to note their progress, and we are all amazed at how fast they are growing.

Rose and Pendo had to quickly learn that we do not take them for walks or swing them around or tap loudly on their little house.

loose ends

First of all, the past few days have been incredibly busy!  No time or energy for blogging.

Secondly, in case you’ve been on pins and needles wondering what we are eating around here, that delightful picture from the last post was our most recent Kenyan meal.  It’s our goal to make a completely Kenyan meal once a month.  We’d like to more often, but it takes too much time for a regular week.  We love sakuma wiki, beef stew over rice, and chapati.  Yum!  Can’t wait until we do that again.

Finally, here are a few pictures from our time at Kalahari on Spring Break.

We had sooooo much fun at Kalahari and hope to go there again.

4 things

1.  We FINALLY mailed in our tax information.

(Yes, I know it’s the 18th and the deadline is the 15th.  The deadline was extended this year, thank goodness!  We HATE being this late on getting things done, but we had no choice but to wait on one particular document which did not arrive until 5 pm on Friday.  I’m much relieved to have that behind us.)

2.  We had SNOW today.  About 3/4 of an inch accumulated on our porch for a few hours before it melted away.

If there weren’t strong tornadoes down south to compare this to, I would be a little. bit. frustrated.

Hello . . . hello.  Spring, are you there?  We’re ready to see your beautiful face.

3.  It’s that time of year again.

Pictures and a silly story coming soon.

4.  What did we have for dinner yesterday and lunch today?

Any guesses?  Yum!!

another birthday

Remember the post from yesterday where Aunt Mel is snuggling with two of her nieces?

That happened several days ago.  We had the privilege of spending all of Spring Break with Aunt Mel, and some of it with Grandma and Grandpa.  We all headed to Kalahari, an awesome indoor water park/hotel for a few days.  It was soooooo fun!  This girls absolutely LOVED every minute of it.

Here’s the thing.  I learned quickly that cameras and water parks are not a good combination.

I still managed to take about 250 pictures, most of which I still need to sort and edit.

So . . . that was a reeeeeeeeally long introduction to show you some non-water related pictures from our time at Kalahari.

This mini-bowling alley in the Kalahari arcade was Kait’s first experience with bowling.

The girls also enjoyed the indoor play area.  You could climb on the structure and also shoot little nerf-like balls with air guns.

Put the balls in,

push the button,

and watch them fall out of the lion’s mouth.

This kept us busy for quite a while.

Coming soon . . . more pics from the water.   We really had so much fun!  I hope we’re able to go there again sometime.

more bday fun

Kait mixed it up a bit this year.  Traditionally we have homemade cinnamon rolls for birthday breakfasts, but Kait decided she would rather have chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream and sprinkles.  Yum!!  Nothing like starting off your golden birthday with a sugar rush.

After breakfast, Kait chose to go swimming with a friend.  These sweet girls have been friends since they were two years old!  They had the pool to themselves, and it was fun to watch them swim and splash together.

After a shower and lunch, Kait (who adores a good scavenger hunt) was off to follow the clues to find her gift from us.

She took her new much better fitting bike for a spin, even in the rain.

Later we had friends over for dinner and ice cream cake!!!

It took G about 10 minutes to cut the cake.  It was frozen solid, baby.  Kait was super excited to have her first cake made completely out of her favorite food.  Happy birthday, sweet one!
